Full Frame Part 2.

At the festival, I got to meet some really interesting filmmakers and also some really friendly russian guys.

Amongst the most wonderful films I saw, there was:

"Summerchild"
by Iris Olsson (Finland)
A film wonderfully shot , where everything is weighted with perfect balance, sound, editing and images all blend majestically to support the really strong story of a young russian girl from Karelia being "adopted" for the summer by a well-thinking finnish family. The clash of two worlds.

"Alone in four walls"
by Alexandra Westmeier (Russia)
We spend an hour with kids in jail. Emotionally tough and very well handled, a harsh and complex reality hits us right in the face with clear and disturbing honesty.
Very sensitive and strong, unanswerable questions keep popping in. A rare and precious insight into an unknown world.

"Flying On One Engine" by Joshua Z.Weinstein:
Great story, filled with wicked humour, powerful editing (by the charming Hemal Trivedi) and camera work and a really touching film. You get moved deeply and also laugh a lot while watching that great film about an unbelievable indian surgeon...Go check the website for the story!

I won't talk about all the films I've loved but I'll try to post some links towards them so you can find some info about them: Daughters of Wisdom, City of Cranes, Neither Memory Nor Magic, etc.

There is also a need of special attention for the amazing film by the canadian Yung Chang: UP THE YANGTZE
If it comes to a theater near you, run and support that great documentary!
