http://www.theplaceswelive.com/

TEHRAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2008

I finally had some good news today, our film "OF SHADOWS AND MEN" has been selected to be screened in IRAN, at the TEHRAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL.
This is the 4th official festival selection and also the 4th country where the film will have had the chance to meet an audience.

Art in Prague (13) : Hormone Sekine

Part of the Prague Triennale, the work of japanese Hoemone Sekine or rather HORMONE SEKINE.
I love his simplicity and choice of essential colours, it's actually quite close to the style of my own paintings.

Also good to check his own page on the exhibition at the Triennale, he's got some interesting photographs showing the museum.

A statue of Jan Zizka...
I didn't know who he was but an old man who saw me with my camera insisted on me photographing the statue...

Homer & Obama

Embedded Video

Olomouc snapshots (2)

The last bit of YUGOSLAVIA!!!
A Mausoleum to yugoslavian soldiers who died in Czechoslovakia... It is officially Yugoslavian soil and nothing was decided about it after the dissolution of Yugoslavia.
It was a very strange feeling to be there...

This was an art work in Olomouc Modern Art museum:
Zdenek Beran-"Play with Cabbage heads" 1987-1908
The first thing that striked me was the terrible smell. The rotten cabbage really stunk up the whole room, and we didn't know at first where it came from. Then we saw the work and immediately understood. I pity the woman working in that room, sitting in that terrible smell.
But then, aside from that, I must say that this work really was strong. Cabbage heads really look like human heads and it all looks like a terrible massacre, a devastated battle field.
Strong piece...
Sadly, I wouldn't really recommend Olomouc Modern Art Museum... I preferred the one in Hradec-Kralove.

Art in Prague (10) : Erik Snedsbøl / Emil Mirazchiev

Also at the Triennale, I was really moved by the "Turnon" series by Erik Snedsbøl.
Here is the set of 3 photographs from his series that were exhibited at the Triennale (borrowed from his website):

The Triennale was actually pretty rich in photographic works and videos.

Also interesting was the video installation "Wag the dog" by Emil Mirazchiev.
You found yourself in a cave, in front of a lot of tv screens with dogs barking at you...
Pretty impressive. Too bad that the small video on his website doesn't show how impressive that was.
